Prerequisites:
  • What Do You Meme Board Game
  • (Optional) Markers (Read the "Tips" section)
  • (Optional) Hourglass/stop watch (Read the "Tips"section)

Experience:
The best part of the game is laughing at the caption cards and meme photo cards with the group. The game suggests to have 3-20+ people, but I think 4-10 players is the sweet spot. At 3 people, it's not too bad, but it's more fun when there are more caption cards to choose from. When there are more than 10 players, it starts getting too long to play since the judge needs to read at least 9 caption cards and decide which is their favorite from the group. The first few plays are pretty fun since there are so many good caption cards, but I think the downside of the game is once you've gone through the stack of meme photo cards, it's hard to replay the game over and over, since you've seen the meme cards already. To help the game go smoother, you can add markers, to indicate the current judge. And you can also add an hourglass/stop watch to prevent people from taking too long to decide which caption card to put in the pile or select from the group. There are some freestyle cards in the deck where all the other players can make up their own captions, unless your friends are super creative, I haven't personally used these cards since people take a while to make up good captions. Also, there are definitely some NSFW caption cards.

How to Play:
  • Every player is given 7 caption cards to begin with.
  • The group decides who to go first as the judge. (The rules suggest: "The person with the most Instagram followers typically starts as the judge. Unless they bought followers, or use 100 hashtags on each post. If you have a friend who does that, slap them firmly in the face." But, feel free to decide however you want.
  • The judge draws a meme photo card from the pile, and puts it on the easel.
  • The other players choose a caption card from their hands that match the meme photo card and put it face down.
  • The judge gathers all the caption cards placed face down and reads them.
  • The judge picks their favorite of the group and gives the meme photo card to whoever's caption card they chose.
  • The player who won the card, keeps it next to them for the entirety of the game.
  • The new judge is now the player to the left of the current judge and the game continues on.
  • There isn't really an end. So, as a group you can decide when to end, say 6 meme photo cards collected.
  • Bonus rule: There are freestyle cards which all the players write their own captions.
  • Bonus rule: Exchange a collected photo card to replace all 7 caption cards in your hand.

Tips:
  • Make the game easier by using an object, any object, as a marker for the judge, the current person who picks the meme card. And when the judge changes, move the object marker to the new judge.
  • Hourglass timer, for the friends who take too long to decide.

Pros:
  • The best part of the game are the caption cards. The meme photo cards are not bad too, but the captions are gold. Many of the cards are either relatable, or so ridiculous that it's funny. Some examples:
    • "When you're not in a relationship but you're having relationship problems"
    • "When the dentist asks you a question while their hands are in your mouth"

Cons:
  • Hard to replay the game continuously after a few games/gone through all the cards.
